The ability of reserpine to suppress thiouracil-induced goitre in rats was studied. Reserpine given intramuscularly in doses of 5 and 10 μg/100 g body weight was completely ineffective in preventing goitre. This finding does not support the theory that reserpine inhibits formation or release of thyrotrophic hormone.
