This communication deals with the isolation, identification and quantitative estimation of 21-deoxycortisol and four other minor steroids, 11-deoxycortisol, 11β-and 17α-OH-progesterone and 11β-OH-androstenedione, in a pooled sample of adrenal venous blood from two normal possums. Adrenal venous collections were made during an i.v. infusion of porcine corticotrophin at a constant rate of 2·0 i.u./kg. body wt./hr. for periods of 2 hr. in each animal. The procedures for collecting adrenal venous blood and steroid assays have been described previously (Weiss & McDonald, 1965, 1967). Identification of the five components was based on the following criteria: chromatographic mobilities compared with reference standards in at least three of the following solvent systems, T/75, L/80, LT11/75, LT 32/80, LB 53/80 (Bush, 1961); mobility after acetylation with pyridine:acetic anhydride (2:1); u.v. absorption in methanol; reaction of the isolated steroids with blue tetrazolium, Porter-Silber and Zimmermann reagents and fluorescence in u.v. light after treatment with
Journal of Endocrinology is committed to supporting researchers in demonstrating the impact of their articles published in the journal.
The two types of article metrics we measure are (i) more traditional full-text views and pdf downloads, and (ii) Altmetric data, which shows the wider impact of articles in a range of non-traditional sources, such as social media.
