Contributors' attention is drawn to the following guidelines and recommendations concerning the validation of biological and other assays, the statistical treatment of results and steroid nomenclature.
If well-established biological assays are used, a reference to the exact technique employed should be given. If authors have modified the technique slightly, sufficient detail of the changes should be given for others to repeat the assay similarly. A statement of the average precision (λ) of the modified assay should be given.
If a standard biological assay has been extensively modified, or a new one developed, a full description of the method is necessary. It should include a description of the experimental design and its statistical analysis together with data demonstrating the assay's validity, including specificity and precision. Such data will merit a separate part of the Results section, or even require a full paper. The standard used should always be stated. The standard should
