SUMMARY

Administration of the indoles 5-methoxytryptophol, 6-hydroxymelatonin, melatonin, N-acetylserotonin or 5-methoxyindole-3-acetic acid (six 100-μg injections given at intervals of 12 h) inhibited both the absolute and relative ovarian and uterine weights of immature female mice pre-treated with HCG. Administration of 5-hydroxytryptophol or 5-methoxytryptamine at the same dosage inhibited ovarian but not uterine hypertrophy in mice pre-treated with HCG.
